Lëtzebuerger Fräiheetslidder – Geschicht a Politik am Lidd
On 14 May 2018, the Centre d’études et de documentation musicales (Cedom) of the Bibliothèque nationale de Luxembourg published the number 7 of the series “De Litty”, Cedom’s educational notebooks, on the theme of songs on the theme of freedom. The booklet “Lëtzebuerger Fräiheetslidder – Geschicht a Politik am Lidd” was compiled by Marc Schoentgen, Michèle Schilt and Georges Urwald in Luxembourgish. This notebook, illustrated with caricatures by Andy Genen, can be collected for 10€ at the BnL reception desk or ordered via for 12€ (10€ + 2€ postage).
Since its origins, the BnL has collected and preserved musical documents. The Centre d’études et de documentation musicales (Cedom), was created in 1989, and has for missions to collect, centralize, index, preserve and make accessible the musical heritage of Luxembourg, and to manage the archives of composers residing, or having resided in Luxembourg.

Le 14 mai 2018, le Centre d’études et de documentation musicales (Cedom) de la Bibliothèque nationale de Luxembourg a publié le numéro 7 de la série “De Litty”, les carnets didactiques du Cedom, sur le thème des chansons sur le thème de la liberté. Le carnet intitulé “Lëtzebuerger Fräiheetslidder – Geschicht a Politik am Lidd” a été compilé par Marc Schoentgen, Michèle Schilt et Georges Urwald en langue luxembourgeoise. Ce carnet, illustré avec des caricatures d’Andy Genen, peut être retiré au prix de 10€ au guichet de l’accueil de la BnL ou commandé via au prix de 12€ (10€ + 2€ frais d’envoi).

Bella ciao
Bella ciao is an Italian partisan song which originated during the Italian civil war. It is used worldwide as a hymn of freedom and resistance.

Die Gedanken sind frei
Die Gedanken sind frei is a German song about the freedom of thought. The text and the melody can be found in Lieder der Brienzer Mädchen, printed in Bern, Switzerland between 1810 and 1820. The original lyricist and the composer are unknown, though the most popular version from Neukirch near Schönau (Nowy Kosciól) was rendered by Hoffmann von Fallersleben in his 1842 collection Schlesische Volkslieder mit Melodien.
